For many years, Miriam Damico made Moonglow Inn a memorable summer home for families and active seniors from New York and Florida. The cool Catskill Mountains were a wonderful place to spend the hot summer months. But as of January 2002, Moonglow Inn is no longer in operation. After 59 years in business, and at the urging of her family and friends, Miriam reluctantly decided it was time to sell and retire. Since then she has moved into a beautiful condo, overlooking a golf course and lakes, in sunny south Florida.

But the spirit of Moonglow lives on in our memories. From the 1940's to the 1970's Moonglow was home to growing families. The new friends that were made there, became friends for life. The women played mah-jongg while the kids were in camp and the husbands only came up on weekends. The hard-fought paddle ball tournaments, the day-long bus trips to Catskill Game Farm, the wild Saturday night parties complete with exotic dancers. Those memories will last forever!

With families having outgrown their need for summer bungalows, the 1980's brought change, which came in the form of senior citizens. For the next twenty years Moonglow was the summer home of active retired adults from New York and Florida. Everything that was needed to enjoy their stay was included. All they had to do was bring clothes and a toothbrush.

Miriam was always at the center of every activity. Bingo and movies, line dancing and card games, trips to Monticello Raceway and the bowling lanes, and of course, the Saturday night parties with a live band and show. But the highlight of every summer at Moonglow was, and always would be, the opening Saturday 4th of July party. Miriam provided free food and drinks for all, and her spread could feed an army. It was the perfect way to kick off the summer season!

Moonglow was one mile from the town of Loch Sheldrake which had a lake with boating, a movie house, stores, restaurants, and the Sullivan County Community College. The college had an adult summer program offering various courses, and they also performed concerts and plays. Directly across the street from Moonglow was the entrance to Lochmore Park. It was a lovely walk through the park on a paved road that lead to Morningside Lake. At the lake there was boating and fishing. Also, located at the park were two public PGA golf courses and tennis courts.
